Sleeping With Art At 21c Museum Hotel in OKC

I recently stayed at 21c Museum Hotel in Oklahoma City during a weekend trip with some of my favorite bloggers. After going nonstop in Norman, OK I was excited to explore the boutique hotel. I’d seen pictures of 21c from a trip my friend Shasha took a few months back, so I was thrilled to spend time there on our trip! Our room wasn’t quite as baller as hers was, but trust me when I say it was the best I’ve ever stayed in! If art, minimalism, and penguins are your thing…keep reading.

The Rooms

The rooms are gorgeous! I loved how bright they were with natural light, thanks to the almost floor to ceiling window in each room. Because the hotel is used to be a Ford assembly plant, they’ve added quite a few touches centered around the automobiles. In the picture above you can see that the floors are designed off of tire tracks, and the art on the wall is actually a shipping blanket. They also use car parts and accessories in other pieces around the hotel!

The bathroom was really modern as well. White tiles with black caulk canvas the place. The faucets and handles all fitting the automobile theme. But one of my favorite additions was the green rubber ducky that came with every room!

The hotel and Visit OKC even had some fun goodies waiting for us upon arrival. Y’all know how I feel about some swag (love it). This basket did not disappoint!

The Museum

The hotel itself is a museum (hence the name), but they have an area downstairs that is open to the public. They change the museum out twice every year. We were lucky enough to visit when OFF-SPRING: New Generations was being displayed. It definitely gave the hotel an eerie feel, with the focus seeming to be on creepy children. Not gonna lie, any time I walked around by myself I kept looking back to make sure there weren’t two creepy twins standing at the end of the hallway. It was entertaining nonetheless.

The Restaurant

The hotel also has a restaurant and bar downstairs near the lobby. I wasn’t able to eat at the restaurant, but I did had a couple drinks at the bar one night and it was super cute. They have lots of art in there too (of course), and even a patio out back where you can eat or play ping pong!

The Gym

Full disclosure – I had NO TIME to workout in the gym because we were going non-stop all weekend! But one of my girls was able to snap a couple pictures of it so I can share it with y’all!

The Penguins

I can’t write this post without bringing up the purple penguins. No matter what time of day, or how long it’s been since you last saw them, they are always moving. They wait outside of hotel doors, they’re in the lobby. They’re literally everywhere. Sometimes in flocks. Sometimes alone. But the one time the caught me so off guard that I screamed was when the elevator door opened and the dagblasted thing was just standing there.

The Cons

All-in-all my stay at the hotel was wonderful! I couldn’t imagine myself staying anywhere else when I visit OKC again (but I say that without having visited ANY other hotels there). There were a couple of things that weren’t up to par about the hotel though.

For one, each of our rooms had something missing when we entered it. In my room, we didn’t have an umbrella, in others’ rooms they didn’t have the rubber ducky. Minor things for sure but cons nonetheless.

Also, when I checked in my card was charged a bit more for incidentals than i was supposed to be (like $300 more). Granted that could have been because I was on a comp’d stay and the sweet girl checking me in didn’t know? IDK. It didn’t happen to any of the other girls I was staying with (and I was refunded) so I wouldn’t worry much about it on future visits. But it happened.

The Verdict

21c Museum Hotel was one of the most modern hotels I’ve ever stayed in. I loved everything from the museum, to the trinkets in the wash rooms. Everyone was SO helpful and enthusiastic about working at the hotel – which was refreshing! I loved that the hotel had a shuttle that would take us anywhere within three miles of the hotel. I honestly wish I’d had more time to explore the hotel and take advantage of all that they offered. But I will be back and can’t wait to stay there again soon.
