How To Pick A Gym That Fits Your Lifestyle

With so many gyms popping up on every corner, it can be hard to pick one that’s right for you. You want somewhere that has all of the things you want in a gym, and you want it to be affordable. There are lots of things you should think about when picking out a gym where You Belong®. Here are some things I consider before signing on with local gyms.

Because I’m loving the #throwback feel of this week, I’m gonna share some more old pictures of me! Please bare with me as phone cameras were pretty wack back then haha.

Questions To Ask Before Signing Your Membership

Does it have the machines I like to use?

You have #bootygoals that you need to meet! Does the gym have that one machine you love to use to make your butt look good? If not, it may not be the gym for you.

Is it in your budget?

Okay, so you found a gym that has every machine, the perfect amount of people, every class you want, and a basketball court. But that sucker is $150/month and there’s no way you can squeeze that! Try to find a gym that’s more affordable because if you can’t pay for the gym, they’ll kick you out! Girl, they have moneys to make!

Do you want your gym to have classes?

This one isn’t as big for everyone. Some people need their gym to have classes so they can switch it up. Others just like to use weights and cardio machines, keeping it real basic.

Do you need your gym to have multiple locations?

Do you travel a lot? Do you work in one city but live in another? If things like this are true, then you want to join a gym that has multiple locations you can use — that way you’re getting the most out of your membership!

Does the staff at the gym seem welcoming?

There’s no way I can go to a gym where people don’t greet me with a smile. Like I said in my last post, I like to surround myself with positive people! (AKA No critics®) It’s why I am such a positive person and how I motivate others to be the same.

Does the gym do anything for the community?

This question probably caught you off guard. I mean who thinks of that when picking out a gym? Recently, I found out that there is a gym that gives back to the community through their antibullying efforts.

Yesterday, I wrote this post about my weight loss/gain story. The amount of love and support that this post brought out left me speechless. So many people can relate to losing and gaining weight and the struggle that comes with. Originally, the post was meant to shed a light on Planet Fitness’s Judgement Free Generation®. But ultimately, it became way too personal to include another brand. However, because I’m so in love with what the #judgementfreegen is aiming to do, I still wanted to let y’all know about their efforts.

According to the Planet Fitness website, approximately 1 in 5 teens report that they’ve been bullied. That number is unsettling, but they’re working to not only create a judgement free environment in their gyms, but also in their communities.  Planet Fitness has partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, as well as Stomp Out Bullying to support a range of activities and educational programs to reduce bullying. The fact that they’re able to do all of that, and only charge $10/month for some memberships is pretty impressive! You can find out more about their efforts at this website.

Are you a member of a gym, or looking for one to join during the new year? If so, let me know which ones you’re interested in below in the comments. Also, if you have any additional tips that I missed out on for choosing a gym, Hook a girl up and leave those as well!

A huge thank you is in order to Planet Fitness for sponsoring this post!
