One Pan Dinner: Asparagus and T-Bone Steak

Cooking a steak dinner at home may be my new favorite thing. I recently tried this recipe (created by Heather Ramsdell) and it was a game changer. My steak came out so perfectly cooked and tender. It took everything in me not to eat the entire t-bone steak in one sitting. Thanks to OXO’s new Prep Peeler line, my asparagus came out perfect too!

As if OXO didn’t already have enough cool kitchen tools, they just came out with these handy Prep Peelers. My country butt didn’t know anything like these existed. The only peeler I’ve ever owned was a one-size-fits-all potato peeler that I pretty much used for everything. Who knew Asparagus Peelers were a thing?

Spoiler Alert: they’re awesome. They literally have one job and they do it so well. The peelers are made with Japanese stainless steel, so you never have to sharpen them and they won’t rust! Plus they’re easy to handle when peeling asparagus because of their small size and y-shaped handle. This could’ve come in handy when I made my

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably asking why do I need to peel asparagus? Well, have you ever noticed how asparagus can be a little tough when you cook it sometimes? The Asparagus Peeler is a fix for that because it removes that woody layer. Even better, it ONLY removes the woody layer so to reduce waste! Personally, I like to use it to “shred” asparagus and use it for a fresh summer salad. Add a few cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, and a lemon-y vinaigrette (maybe a little parmesan if you want to live on the wild side) and you have yourself a side dish!

For this one-pan dinner, I whipped up some steak, mushrooms, and asparagus. It was absolutely delicious and included a few firsts for me!

  1. Cooking a steak in the oven. What?
  2. Cooking with shitake mushrooms. Literally, where have these been all my life? I think I like them more than I like portabellas!
  3. Peeling asparagus. Because, again, I’ve been living that basic life.

Nevertheless, the recipe turned out perfect! I definitely plan to put this in the monthly rotation. That t-bone is a beautiful, tender, flavorful cut of steak. I don’t think I’ll be eating any other kind in the near future.
