Texas State Fair: Food Comas and Regrets

I went to the Texas State Fair with Anthony this weekend for the first time. Holy moly. Am I the only person that didn’t expect the Texas State Fair to be so HUGE? They had every ride imaginable, free concerts and events, and food….ohhh the food. Lord, please forgive me for the things I ate at the Texas State Fair. It was my first time, and I honestly did not expect there to be so many innovative fried foods! For all of my health nuts reading this, turn away now. I can promise you that the only healthy thing that I did at the Texas State Fair was walk from vendor to vendor. **hides face in shame**

I can not get over the amount of food that was at the state fair! Plus, the fact that every single booth had a new creation that I’ve probably never heard of! It was ridiculous. Here are all of the foods Anthony and I ate.

Part of me wishes I was kidding when I say we ate all that food. The other part of me thinks it was the best meal I’ve had in years. I should probably also point out that Anthony and I aren’t superhuman. All of this was consumed over the span of two days. (That makes it a little better, right?)

When we weren’t pigging out, we were just walking around being a cutesy couple checking out the sites.

I even got to milk a cow!

Plus I got to watch all of the brave souls get on rides I would probably embarrass myself on.

This particular ride was so hot even the cup wore sunglasses!

Needless to say, we loved the State Fair. We will definitely be back (because we bought season passes). But worry not, we won’t be pigging out like we did last weekend again! We have literally been to the gym every day since because we felt so guilty.

    1. Girl, that pizza was good but there were SO many other foods that were even better! I forgot to add it but we had a deep fried queso that had chicken, bacon, queso and some other stuff. But the kicker was it was served w/ a jalapeño ranch dipping sauce. Literally wanting some right now!

    1. Oh, you should totally go! The bacon margarita was fab but it could have used a little more tequila. haha

  6. Oh, man. I still have yet to go but I figured that doing the Big Tex Choice Awards (our fun experience and how I did NOT make it to be guest judge: http://funcitystuff.com/what-the-big-tex-choice-awards-mean-to-a-state-fair-virgin/) for the first time this year, I could at least say that I’ve tried the amazing food. And it was fun! But I didn’t know all this other stuff existed too!!! Maybe I should put my social anxiety aside just for an afternoon and risk it. I WANT ALL THE THINGS TOO, GINGER!!!

    1. I’m so jelly of you going to those awards. Like you have no idea!!

  7. Yee Haw!!! Looks like you go to try a lot of different foods!

  8. i have never been to the State Fair, its a shame because we supposedly have the best and biggest fair in the nation.

  9. UM excuse me girl?? Did you not have a Fletcher’s Corny Dog???!!!! You MUST you simply must!!! I wouldn’t steer you wrong. Oh and the Funnel Cake Ale is pretty dang yummy too! The only bright side is my FitBit was high fiving me all day for the 21,000+ (not even kidding) steps I got in the day we went. (Good thing Mr. FitBit doesn’t know what I ate!!!). Oh, if you can find some room, the corn queso bites and the fried avocado balls and the fried cuban roll were also noteworthy. 🙂

  10. I love this! Looks like so much fun ! I was a flight attendant many many years ago and spent alot of time in Texas – Love that state and all of the joy of the state fair

    1. Thats so cool, Eileen. I always knew that if I wasn’t terrified of planes I would make a wonderful flight attendant! 😀

  11. We went last week and tried the Cowboy Crunch, Funnel Cake Ale, Pretzel Crusted Pollo Queso, Corn Dogs, French fries, fried oreos, cotton candy, and popsicles. The kids were with us so we shared most of this with them (although not the beer!) My favorite parts were the petting zoo, the beer garden, huge ferris wheel and just walking around people watching. I also wore my fitbit and got in 12,000 steps in about 5 hours!!! So I still count that as a workout!

    1. Oh YUM! The pollo queso was one of my favorites! I didn’t even go to the petting zoo or anything. But way to go on all of those steps!!!!

  12. Okay, we go to the Georgia state fair, but this looks so much better!! We are always too cheap to buy much food and I am totally over here drooling! Back wrapped turkey leg? Yes please!

    1. Girl yes!!! It is pretty expensive though. But the turkey leg was ON POINT

  13. I haven’t been to the State Fair in forever and if I did go I am to cheap to spend money but I would love going and walking around. And I am sure I would find lots of foods I would want to try.

    1. Haha I definitely understand that! It is pretty expensive. I think all together we spent an amount that kind of makes me want to cry.

  14. It is the yearly corny dog!! I’ve only been once last year and yes, it is huge. I was exhausted after!!

    1. Ugh, I love corn dogs! They’re my absolute favorite.

  15. Omg!! I love The State Fair of Texas!! Since my birthday falls within the timeframe of the fair I go every year!! It’s pretty much a tradition for me! I love their funnel cakes and corny dogs!! Glad you enjoyed your first time!!!
